Empowerment with Education
Education for young adults in Haiti ranks last in the Western Hemisphere. The Haitian education system yields the lowest literacy rate of about 61% (64.3% for males and 57.3% for females.) This is below the 90% average literacy rate for Latin American and Caribbean countries. Advancing Haiti wants to help change this broken system. By connecting sponsor families in the United States with Haitian young adults, Advancing Haiti can provide hope, help, and break this horrible pattern.
Advancing Haiti will provide the opportunity of earning a college degree in Nursing to all approved candidates. These scholarship winners will live with their American sponsors and/or be provided campus housing.
Hope
After attending Haitian schools for 13 years and passing the Haitian national exam, these young adults still have no hope. They have a 0% chance to secure a job and only a 5% chance to continue their education in Haiti. Advancing Haiti wants to impact this situation by raising money for approved students to help them earn a U.S. college degree in Nursing. By providing this opportunity to these students, Advancing Haiti can help truly make a difference for generations to come.
